I’m reading chapter 29 where the Truth is Revealed (the actual one, not the fake one) and Vale actually figures it out before anyone else. Like, she plays dumb sometimes and she actually is quite stupid for most things that aren’t strategies but she figures it out way before anyone else, it’s incredible.

Fun insider info: the reason the end of Vale even exists the way it does is because since Vale has time-controlling powers I thought it’d be fun if Cephas got shot at one point and she could reverse the bullet out of his body but what would be even more fun is if it didn’t actually work because Cephas isn’t affected by her powers so the bullet would technically tear two wounds into him, one where it goes in, and one where it goes out as its trajectory is reversed (since Cephas has moved in the meantime cause he’s not affected).

There is, of course, a reason why Cephas isn’t affected by Vale’s powers (no, it isn’t love the way it is in Leaper which is still the best scene I’ve ever written don’t @ me) but I was gonna have Vale only control the bullet while everything else, including Ormandy who fired the gun, is going normal time, and then Ormandy would step forward in SHOCK as his bullet is reversed IN TIME, but where he would step to is the place his bullet left his gun (which he’d let down in the meantime) so then Vale just yanks at nothing and the bullet goes PFFLLLTTTT back inside Ormandy. And then Cephas falls on the ground and Vale ~lets go of ~the bullet and then BAMM it slams into the wall behind Cephas (from where he moved in the meantime you knOW WHAT I MEAN?).

I just thought that’d be too much and I kinda wanted to emphasise a lot that only Cephas isn’t affected so to have Vale suddenly be able to just pick a random object to control was a little ehh, she can’t even do that with her normal powers.

And like, it’s so stupid because if Vale literally does nothing then Cephas would’ve been better off with just the one gunshot wound but this way he somehow has two and poor girl literally just found out the thing (that chapter is online by the way :3), then fucking Morlene is there, and Cephas is gonna die and then she just panics and suddenly she can’t just stop but also reverse time (I didn’t steal this from Life Is Strange, how dare you… I stole it from Superhot, then I stole it from Life Is Strange, get your facts straight), and she also knows Cephas isn’t affected by her powers but she just had to do something.

Anyway, so I needed a reason why Cephas isn’t affected by Vale’s powers (a reason that isn’t love, I already used that) and that is how the rest of the story happened and I feel really smart but in fact I just wanted my OC to see her best friend suffer and almost die and that’s how I figured out why any of it even happened.

“Ugh, all this side choosing,” I groan and get ready to parkour my way out of this theatre for the second time today. “I can’t deal with you lot; do you really spend this much time thinking about stuff? Sounds exhausting.”

A wonderful accidental parallel from Vale where both her friends and her enemies humor her to keep her from throwing a temper tantrum.

Morlene (to Lourdes): “Honey, stop stealing Vale’s jokes, you know they make her feel smart.”

Many chapters later.

Ormandy (to Zavier): "Did you know she was disguised as Agatha Browning all along? Just tell her you fooled her, it’ll make her so happy.”

Last line tag!

IIRC @perringwrites maybe tagged me in this? But since I haven’t written a new word in like six months Imma just give you a paragraph from the chapter that’s up next for posting on wattpad from Vale.

Context: Cephas takes off after one of the deadly powerful royal witches so naturally Vale has to stop him before he could follow her inside the castle where he will surely be killed. In a panicked frenzy Vale gets to the outside gates of the castle, praying that Cephas hadn’t been killed yet.

He can’t be inside already. Maybe he didn’t even come this way. Maybe he’s dead already.

Then I hear slight grunting to the far right of the fence where a natural border, the side of the mountain separates the downtown from the factory district. There I discover Cephas in the bushes, bouncing on his tiptoes, trying to get a grip on the metal bars of the fence. He’s all red in the face and sweat is pouring from his scalp. I stop and fold my arms.

“I have to give you this much: the guards haven’t noticed you yet.”

I have never heard Cephas shriek up until this point but now that I have scared him into pushing himself off the fence and falling on his backside, it’s a delightful experience.

“Fucking hell,” he groans once he’s standing again, rubbing his butt.

Oh no but this chapter has such fun lines, like

“I’ve built a capable team but with the witches protecting Zavier there’s no way we can get a hold of him. You got anything to take them out?”

“Not momentarily, no,” I admit and look at the staircase in front of me that I’ll have to climb to get to the king’s suite. “But I have a feeling he’ll be fine with me hopping in through his window.”

“And if he’s not?”

I look back at Mason whose expression isn’t unlike a constipated goat’s. There’s a lot going on in that head of hers. I put a hand on her shoulder.

“You should know that I’ve always loved you.”

“Piss off,” Mason swats my hand away with a faint smile.

Or when Vale throws herself in through Zavier’s bedroom window and says these words out loud

“The last time I had this many sharp bits in my mouth I was having a completely different party.”

before noticing three of the royal witches have her surrounded.

And that one time I was behind on my wordcount goal so I had Vale recite an entire paragraph from like ten chapters ago and had her comment on how she remembered it word-by-word and planned to take it out through editing but it’s way too fond of a memory.

I’m not doing these tags correctly, am I?

I saw people were playing with this character creator so I thought I’d make Morlene and Vale (pre-breakup) cause why the Eff Not. Obviously Vale is being inappropriate and Morlene can’t believe she’s dating this dumbass.

Lol I made some others too. Unfortunately the facial hair options aren’t too swell so Cephas is a bare-faced baby now x) But look, assassin buddies!

And also a very tired Mason on the third one and Vale who clearly stole that sword from her.
