absolutely nothing in a video game has set a tone as well as asgore smashing the mercy button at the start of his fight and thats just a fucking fact

Please elaborate. I want to hear more about what you think of this.

not to be serious about epic divorce man but like. the asgore fight is more or less the payoff of the advertised theme of undertale – “you don’t have to kill anyone”, and he does the most to challenge this theme, not just to the player but on a personal level, since the running motif of undertale’s monsters is that they don’t want to kill you either, but they have to or less they will never be free.

the scene beforehand, where small shock plays, is given additional context on replays and knowing how chara, flowey, asriel, and frisk all relate to each other – asgore is looking at someone who looks identical and acts identically to his child who, from his perspective, died of an illness that he could not prevent, and he has to kill them again

it is as equally “you cannot spare me” as it is “i cannot spare you”, which when juxtaposed against how asgore never uses attacks that are aimed at the player directly, creates the mood that is “neither of us want to be here but we have to be for there to be a future at all so someone needs to fucking die already” and its really fucking good

undertale is literally too good to have a legacy of just being taboo and cringeworthy I dont understand. I feel like people have even stopped hating on it ironically(????) and do it genuinely and thats so sad. its relegated to a background meme and it deserves so much more than that. Its most major flaw is that it was loved by too many too much and thats just. really sad.

now that undertale’s been announced for the switch, i feel like it’s time to remind everyone again:

regardless of what you think of undertale as a game, it’s completely harmless, so don’t fucking bash others (ESPECIALLY kids) for enjoying it, ya dipstick.

Reminder of some stuff about UT that people seem to have forgotten as well:

–Queer as hell
–Nonbinary protag
–Open lesbian romance between two important and awesome characters
–Many incidental characters with “they” pronouns
–Incidental gay romance (you end a boss fight by helping two men realize they love each other hecksake!!)
–Main character who is trans or GNC (he gets the body he wants, it’s never defined what his body was before and that is BETTER honestly)
–Toby Fox attempted to make good spaces for adults and kids before the game was even popular by asking people to tag adult content “#undertail”
–Addresses the effects of abuse and made fandom seriously consider how much responsibility a hurt child holds for actions, and what it means to forgive

Like it or not, Undertale is a hell of a learning space, please let others experience that without “lololol cringe”.  Honestly please let others experience everything without “lololol cringe”, it’s 2018 not 2006.

honestly… play undertale if you haven’t yet. this isn’t even a “fuck cringe culture” thing because i def understand being put off by the fandom but it’s a genuinely well made, beautiful, emotional game about love and hope and as sappy as it is to say that it’s such a good experience that genuinely changed me as a person. it’s usually five dollars on steam because of how often there are sales and it’s honestly the best five dollars i’ve ever spent

In Undertale, when you die to Asgore and you come back, Frisk can talk to Asgore and say he’s killed you X times. How…? How… do they know that? How is… how’s Asgore not reacting to it? I know Sans is in the know about the whole timelines thing and resetting and stuff but Asgore?
