You know everyone’s tired of love triangles but I still just feel Morlene/Lourdes/Vale so much. If I’m doing this thing right nobody should have a doubt that Morlene and Lourdes’ relationship is unshakable. Morlene never once implies that she wants to get back with Vale, or that she loved/loves her more, or that she’s settling for Lourdes, and Lourdes never once feels or sounds like she’s afraid Vale will “steal” Morlene from her. And even though Vale jokes a lot at Lourdes’ expense and always sounds like a lovestruck idiot around Morlene, she never flirts with Morlene, she keeps all of her thoughts about her being in love with her all the occasional lustful thoughts in her head, out of respect for Morlene, and yes, Lourdes as well. I really respect that about her despite 1) her being a little shit and 2) me having created her. And what Morlene says to Vale when [spoilers] because [spoilers] just wraps all of that up so neatly it’s actually heartbreaking.

“We’ll figure it out?”
he asks and holds out his hand.

“We’ll figure it- what are you even…
trying to do?” I move to somehow interact with the gesture but I’m not sure
what it’s supposed to be.

“I dunno, we’re sitting at a weird
angle.” Cephas wiggles his fingers around my hand.

“Stop it, that’s weird!”

“This isn’t exactly a high-five
appropriate situation but like, we’re making a pinkie promise?”

I eventually catch his pinkie with
my pointing finger and squeeze it.

“There,” Cephas laughs. “Perfect.”

“I can’t believe there were only ever exactly two scientists on this island.”

Well, Cephas, you’d be surprised at how bad I am at writing.

When Morlene said people were hiding under the Capsize
I didn’t think she meant literally under the establishment itself but rather “under but a little to the
side”.

I’m up to the part where the golden trio listens to the um… well, the tapes, and I’m freaking out y’all.

Vale having to literally pull up a chair to reach a metal clasp so she can free Cephas from a torture board is like, peak Vale.

I love writing Vale because you have no idea what era it takes place in. There’s electricity but poorer people still use torches and candles. There are engines, factories, but most houses are built from like, literal earth. You would put it like late 1800s I guess, except Vale says shit like vibin’ and somehow still talks both like a farmer from Tennessee and a high school prep.
