conversations are a lot like teeth. you can only have so many
I’m offended by this ‘writing tip’ as both a tooth enthusiast AND a writer.
I understand the sentiment, but I think this is poorly-worded advice. Yes, dialogue has to have a purpose – no one wants to read meaningless conversations. However, I would much rather read well-written, purposeful dialogue between characters that advances the story forward than endless paragraphs of description, which by the way, also has to have a purpose. Everything in writing is good only in moderation.
